A Review Of Washing Machines On The John Lewis Website

John Lewis

John Lewis is a more upmarket department store with branches dotted right round the country. Their website opens up more possibilities though when it comes to large appliances such as washing machines. They offer a good home delivery service that they don’t charge for either, so if you want a washing machine that delivers the goods as well as being delivered for free, give John Lewis a try.

How do I locate their website?

It is at www.johnlewis.com.

How can I see all the washing machines they sell?

The grey menu which goes across the top of the site has a number of choices in it. Near the left hand side you will see one that says ‘electrical appliances’. It is beneficial not to actually click on it though; just hover over it and lots more choices will pop up.

These are split into three columns. You need the laundry room section on the right, which gives you washing machines as one of the options. Note that combined washer dryers have their own section.

The direct URL for the washing machines section is http://www.johnlewis.com.

Do they have a lot of washing machines to offer?

Yes they have a good selection, which might surprise you. Click the button near the top of the site to reveal everything rather than having to go from page to page.

They have around a dozen different brands here including their own John Lewis brand of washing machines. You will also find Zanussi, Neff, Miele, Hotpoint and Indesit, as well as a few others you will recognise as well.

The left hand column enables you to shop according to the brand, price and also type. Most of the machines are front loading but they do have the odd top loading and integrated ones on offer as well.

Is there a lot of useful information on their site?

Yes, the main page of washing machines is laid out in a simple and minimalist way. Underneath the picture of each one you will see the make and model, as well as the price. You will also see a ‘compare’ box; if you are undecided on what to buy you can tick as many as four boxes and then hit the compare link at either the top or the bottom of the page.

Let’s see what you get if you go through to a product page. Firstly the picture is much bigger, but it doesn’t stop there. You can use the zoom function to see it in even more detail. Once that new window opens press the plus button to zoom in. You can then move the little square around on the small picture in the top right of that window. You will see the corresponding close up on the left.

Underneath this there is some in depth product information. This is written to be positive as well as informative and it does a good job. To the right of this you will find a guide to buying a washing machine, should you need any help or advice on anything.

And below the product information column you will find a large list of key features in a chart format. You can see everything here that you could possibly need to know, and in addition to this you can also find question marks next to some of the items listed. These mean there is additional information on these points. Hover your cursor over it and a small box will appear telling you what you need to know.

How easy is it to order my new washing machine online?

John Lewis makes life very simple in this respect. You will see the ‘add to basket’ button quite close to the picture of the machine, on the other side of the page. Clicking on it once will deposit the machine into your basket. You will see this screen too, to confirm you have indeed selected it.

If you want to carry on with your order just press the continue button. The secure checkout consists of five steps, the first of which is to enter your email address. You will then need to type in your delivery address and choose your delivery options. The rest of the process is quick and easy as well.

In conclusion

John Lewis isn’t the first place that you think of when you need a new washing machine. But they have such a good range of versatile machines for every size of family that you would be mad not to take a look.
