Have You Lost Your Manual?

Monday October 5, 2009

Do you know where the instruction manual for your washing machine is? If you are like many people in this country you are probably shaking your head right now!

Let’s face it, we tend to tuck it away in a safe place when our new washing machine arrives, and that is the last we see of it. We don’t need it for several years and then when we want to check something in it, we can’t find it. Perhaps it was accidentally thrown out, or maybe we mislaid it and we can’t remember where it went.

So what should you do if you need it and you cannot find it?

Well your first port of call should always be the manufacturer who made the machine. Find their website first – just look up the name in any search engine and you should see the company pop up somewhere in the first few results. Many sites have a help section or some kind of downloads section that is set aside for things like this. You might be able to use a search box if they have one – just type in the name or model number of the washing machine and see what pops up.

If you find what you need you can usually download it as a PDF. You can then either read it on your computer or print it out if you wish. But even if you decide to print it, be sure to keep a copy on your hard drive – just in case you lose the one you printed out again!

If you don’t strike lucky in this way, it’s worth emailing the company direct to see if they can help. They may be able to provide a copy for you, but they may only have the most recent ones on their website.

If you don’t get anywhere with that, try searching for the make and model number directly on the internet. This will usually provide some results unless the machine happens to be a very old one. Sometimes you can get results from forums as well; you can always ask if anyone knows where to get a manual or a copy for the machine you have.

Of course if you are looking for the manual because there is a specific problem you want to sort out, the internet can solve it for you anyway in many cases. For example you might want to use those forums to try and find someone who knows what you can do. This is a good way of finding the solution you need without actually getting hold of the original manual.

So you see, it isn’t the end of the world if you have lost the manual to your washing machine. Thanks to the internet there are always ways and means to find a solution to your problem. Even if you don’t find what you need to know online to begin with, keep searching as you are sure to come up with something very soon.
