Ah, now when you think of SMEG you are imagining one of those sensational American style fridge freezers. But of course they have also lent their inimitable style and class to many other kitchen appliances as well.
SMEG Washing Machines from our Featured Retailers
The style starts as soon as you arrive on the home page of their site. But let’s not assume it starts and ends with style here, because the SMEG range has used the best of technology and advanced thinking to make some of the best appliances available today. Shall we go shopping for a SMEG washing machine?
What types of washing machines do they make?
SMEG have one thing in common with many other manufacturers in that they make both freestanding and built in washing machines. But that is where the similarities end.
This is SMEG after all, and their current range contains some 50’s style washing machines that look more like miniature versions of their famous fridge designs. If you want one of these you should note that they are too tall to go underneath the kitchen worktop.
They also make more standard looking washing machines though, so be sure to look through the whole range. There are plenty of features on board all the machines, including rapid washes and high spin speeds.
Why does a washing machine by this brand fit the bill?
With SMEG a lot of people buy to get the look. Their washing machines can certainly stand out, although it’s good to know they provide those built in ones as well if you don’t want to see it all the time.
It is reassuring to know however that you get more than just a famous brand name with SMEG washing machines. They are built to be comprised of the best features and advantages that will help you do your washing faster and easier than ever before.
Is their website very informative?
Yes – and the minimalist design hits you right between the eyes as soon as you arrive. There are minimal links, as they present the whole range of products one by one on that main page. But over on the left there is the ‘products’ link, so click that and you will find yourself looking at some pictures of all the products they create.
Hovering over the washing machine picture loads the laundry section. This page tells you how many items in total are available, and it follows that by giving you four drop down boxes. As you will see you can look at either freestanding or built in washing machines, so make your choice and view the results. You can make your selections from one or more boxes, or just click go and view the whole lot.
Energy rating, spin speed and the colour of the machine are the main things that are provided for you to read about on this page full of listings. Once you click on a picture you can go through to the product page proper. Disappointingly this only has one picture – an enlarged version of the thumbnail on the previous page. If you are viewing a built in washing machine half of the panel is obscured by the door. But you can still get an idea of what to expect.
On the left of the page you will be able to see bullet point lists of all the features that machine comes with. There is also an interesting but small panel you might miss just at the end. This is labelled ‘consumption’ and it tells you how much water, energy and power are used for each wash. This is good to know if you are currently comparing washing machines provided by different brands, as you can see which one comes out the best in these terms.
On the right underneath the picture there are a number of links. These lead you to a technical drawing of the washing machine – including exact sizes – and more product information. The PDF symbols link is a bit of a non-event (there is only one symbol included!) but other than that this part is exceptionally good. Be sure to download the instruction manual if you need it.
In conclusion
SMEG is here to stay as far as appliances of all kinds are concerned. But it has a unique niche in the washing machine market as it has those 50’s style machines to find a space for in your kitchen.
With this much style and plenty more besides, could it be that SMEG is the choice for you?
